FAQs

Q: Where do I film my video from?
A: Videographer stands 1m behind outside of arena facing the centre as marked on diagram. No editing, you can zoom but must always have all the horse and rider in the frame. Please see course details for diagram.

Q: Can I ride more than one equitation class?
A: We are keeping this at one entry per rider, across all levels at this stage. We would like to keep this as fair for everyone as possible as this is a national competition with some amazing prizes on offer.

Q: Does it have to be filmed on a particular size arena?
A: We understand at the moment it can be tricky to access the “ideal” 70x 40m arena and we also don’t want to exclude anyone, so you can film on any size arena which will fit the course requirements.

Q: If I do not have 4 sets of jump wings can I use barrels or plastic drums?
A: Yes, you can utilise other materials if you do not have your own jump wings, but we strongly advise you to consider your safety in selecting your course material. Please note, the use of anything other than Jump wings is at your own risk and discretion.

Q: Can I use a Whip?
A: Yes you can use any whip as long as it is under a total length of 75cm (not a dressage whip), a crop is preferable.

Q: Do I have to ride my test in a sand arena?
A: You can film on any surface, as long as it is safe to do so. You could set your course up in a paddock if you don’t have access to an arena.

Q: Do we need to be dressed in full competition gear- white saddle pad, white breeches and jacket?
A: This is personal preference; we ask that you ride in what you feel comfortable and safe in. Neat and clean for you and your mount. Please be sure to be wearing your safety compliant helmet, and riding gear (safety vest can be used at your own discretion).

Q: Do I need to plait my horse?
A: Plaiting is preferred, however not compulsory, as long as you and your mount are in neat and clean attire. *Reminder, presentation is a large aspect of the Equitation criteria.

Q: I don’t have a jump saddle, am I able to ride in a different saddle?
A: Yes, we would prefer you to ride in your compliant jumping gear, but all-purpose saddles are also ok to ride in.

Q: Does the quality of the video matter?
A:As long as it is clear enough for the judges to make out, it should be fine.

Q: Can I add music over top of my video or turn off the sound on my video?
A: To keep things fair and balanced for all entrants and judges, please do not add music over your video, it should be uncut with no editing and the sound on.

Q: Where do I upload my video entry?
A: This competition we have created an entry submissions page on our Horseland Website at https://www.horseland.com.au/digital-jumping-equitation.html
