Horseland Sponsored Rider - Shane Rose

Shane Rose won a Team Silver Medal in Eventing at the 2008 Bejing Olympics. Shane has also competed for Australia at the World Equestrian Games in 2006 and in 1998 and won the Adelaide CCI**** in 2004. He has been awarded the Anna Savage medal (Best and Fairest Australian Eventing Rider) on three occasions.

Date of Birth: 27th April 1973


Where do you live? Bimbadeen Park, Werombi NSW. (about 1hr south west of Sydney)


When did you start riding?
I began riding when I was very young. I am the youngest of four kids and we all rode when we were young.


Why did you start riding? I began riding because my older brother and sisters rode.


Horse/s: I currently have 9 event horses on my team, there are:

Favourite Horse: 'Peace Matinee' or as he was known at home 'Reggie'. Reggie was the horse that took me from Pony Club to Advanced level eventing.

 

Describe a typical day for you: I start riding between 6.30am and 7am, work all the racehorses pre trainers. That normally takes until about 11am. I then handle and work with the horses that are being broken in. After lunch I ride my Eventers and help our working pupils with their horses. Basically ride horses all day long.


Highest achievement: Team Silver Medal at the Olympics Games. Also winning the Anna Savage Medal three times.


Highlight of career so far: Team Silver Medal at the Olympics Games, 3rd Burghley CCI4*, 1st Adelaide CCI4* and winning the Anna Savage Medal three times.


Who is the most influential person in your riding career? Wayne Roycroft


Who or what inspires you: The fear of losing.


What is your favourite competition accessory? My Pro-lite Eventing Watch that helps me finish the cross country course on time.


What is the handiest item in your tack room?
My grooms.....they know how to best use all the great equipment from Horseland.


What advice would you give to other riders?
Look after your horse.


What do you do outside of the Horse world? I love to get out on the golf course as much as I can.
