Stuart Tinney's WEG Wrap Up

Just returned from the Alltech World Equestrian Games, we are very pleased to be back on Australian soil! A wonderful experience, riding with the best riders and their horses in the world and certainly a very pleasing result, 8th place. Not sure about the small brown rosette for such a mammoth effort! Just to recap: Vettori (Kiwi) felt just fabulous from start to finish... Dressage coach Harry Boldt always appeared pleased, and jumping Kiwi was always solid with Wayne Roycroft. Thank you both for your expertise and also Rob Hanna as our ‘Chef’.

Dressage day Kiwi really went the best he can... there is certainly still room for some extra marks... so still some work to be done there... The Xcountry was long big and tough, however the course would reward good riding.. was the opinion by most. . As the day unfolded that was how it turned out... Kiwi just did his job (and Stuart!) the time was quite tight, however Kiwi had been prepared for this event over many months... he did it with ease and style...  1 second over time. The showjumping was neither high nor technical with deep cups they took a fair rub, quite a few clear... only a few points off a medal... we wished for a tougher show jump course but it was not to be. Vettori finished .4 off his dressage score.

Vettori will now stay in Quarantine for 3 weeks in Kentucky and then fly to New Zealand for a further 3 weeks Quarantine. We will have him home by late November. It was decided to leave Amy with him in the US to look after him, Lelani and Jag. Amy will fly with all the Aussie horses returning.

On our return we would like to thank, Emma Scott and Steph Bender for their great ability to look after our horses (not an easy task!) Also to John and Caroline Twomey who over saw the domestic side of things... again not an easy task! Only 2 fish were lost this trip! Thank you so much.

With Adelaide coming up and 2 horses entered we have not had much time to relax, however we did manage to fit in Lyndal Oatley and Patrik Kittel’s wedding at QUALIA (Hamilton Island) Now this was not too hard to take.. after such a grueling few weeks... Hamilton Island was just superb from all aspects and truly recommend Hamilton as anyone’s holiday Island... Lyndal you looked stunning!

Finally a big thank you to Vettori’s owners Pete O’Connell and Kathy Ward continuing to believe in us. It was wonderful to have you and your family with us for WEG.. Also Tim Game, Sue Walker and Sarah Ballard. Also our major sponsors  Coprice, Bates, Nature Vet and Horseland.

The Australian Sports Commission and the EA for the funding of WEG.
